The 78th Annual
Academy Awards is finally underway with the announcement of the nominees to the film industry's glitziest night. And leading the group of nominees is the sexual politics film "Brokeback Mountain," with a commanding eight nominations. The Johnny Cash-biopic "Walk the Line" follows suit with five nominations.
In the acting department, there are
two names that surprised critics and Oscar aficionados: Terrence Howard and Jake Gyllenhaal. Terrence Howard stars as the moral cop in the police drama "Crash," his first major acting award nomination. Jake Gyllenhaal plays the gay cowboy smitten by an
older flame in "Brokeback Mountain," also his first major acting award nod.
